Sky Dome FAQ
Q: What is SKY DOME?
A: The Sky Dome is an inflatable, portable planetarium that looks a little like a giant igloo. The dome is composed of a dome made from a special opaque vinyl, and a projector, which displays images on the inside of the dome. The projector produces bright light, which is fully adjustable by the user.
Q: Does the SKY DOME fit in any available space?
A: Our dome is 6 meters in diameter an inflatable hemisphere that required an area of 7.0m (23 feet) wide and 3.8m (12.5 feet) ideal height. The dome can be quickly and easily set up in most gymnasiums, hallway or other large rooms that can meet the dome measurements. If the room just meet the minimum height of 3.8m (12.5 feet) so be sure that there is no light fixtures, sprinkler heads or ventilation ducts nearby. The Sky Dome is for indoor use only.
Q: Does the sky Dome travel to our place or we must come to your place?
A: Both options are available. The Sky Dome can be quickly and easily set up in most gymnasiums or other large rooms with a high ceiling. It has delighted students in hundreds of schools around the world and we are confident that you will be thrilled by the excitement and enchantment that our programs offer. All presentations are tailored for each age group and will provide appropriate academic content.
Q: Does the student audience size include adults?
A: Yes, it does. Adults take up just as much space- if not more- than a child.
Q: How many person and or students fit per show?
A: The number of people depends on the age. Groupings by age/grade allows our scientist presenters to tailor each performance to the comprehension level of that audience. Our dome can accommodate between 30 to 35 children or up to 25 to 30 persons in a children-plus-adults show.
Q: How many shows can perform in one school visit?
A: We can perform a maximum of 8-9 shows in one school day (this to be arranged with the school and depends on the duration of the selected movies).
Q: What information do you need from us when making a booking?
A: In addition to a conversation about which show/content you’d like, we need to know how much time we must deliver each show and how many participants there will be at each show.
Q: Can you use the dome outdoors?
A: The dome cannot be used outdoors as it would be affected by wind and rain, but it may be used within a shaded and/or well protected area (weather permit is required).
Q: How long does it take to set up and take down?
A: About 30 to 45 minutes for set up and same time to take down. However, if we have to leave the dome in place, for next day, then only about 15 minutes is needed to inflate the dome. Please be sure that the dome space is clear of any furniture prior to our arrival to your location.
Q: How do I get in? Do I have to crawl?
A: You need to enter the dome through larger zipped slot connected to the front of the dome.
Q: How far do you travel?
A: Staff normally expect to travel within the city of Calgary. Contact our head office to discuss options if you are outside the city limit.
