Grade 11 / Topic: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

Students today will review the life processes of PHOTOSYNTHESIS and CELLULAR RESPIRATION in transferring energy and matter in plant. If your students would like to know more about the process of photosynthesis, cells, DNA and the importance of plants for life on earth, they can watch one of the following movies “Life (A Cosmic Story)” or “The Life of Trees” in addition to science talk and question/answer period by one of our specialist educators.

LIFE: A COSMIC STORY

How did life on Earth begin? This tantalizing question forms the basis of the movie, Life: A Cosmic Story.

Take a high-speed tour of key events since the Big Bang that set the stage for life. Starting with the first stars and ending with the tremendous biological diversity on Earth today, “Life: A Cosmic Story “ will show you that our human pedigree is actually 13.7 billion years in the making.

RUNNING TIME: 26:00 minutes
SUBJECTS COVERED: Forest, Photosynthesis, DNA, Origin of Elements, Milky Way Galaxy, Sun. Earth, Organic Molecules, Evolution, Fossils.

LIFE OF TREES

In the Life of Trees, a cheeky ladybug called Dolores and a quirky firefly called Mike take the audience on an adventurous journey of exploration into the wondrous world of trees. Taking the perspective of insects, the full dome film reveals the magic of the microcosm. How does water get from the roots to the top of the crown? And how does all this make life on our earth possible?

RUNNING TIME: 33:00 minutes
SUBJECTS COVERED: Trees, Production of Chlorophyll, Respiration, Photosynthesis, Water Transport.
